Asian Carp breach electronic gate, threaten Great Lakes fishing

The Asian Carp is an invasive species and is spreading inside of US waterways threatening some of the largest American sport-fishing habitat.

We have evidence this species has breached an electronic fence designed to contain them.

“A monster is loose. It eats 40 times its body weight per day, can grow up to 4 feet long, weighs up to 100 pounds and is known to launch itself out of the water at high velocity like a missile, frequently striking boaters and PWC operators who happen to be passing by.

Silver carp have the ability to jump high into the air and often hit boaters on the Missouri River. These fish were filmed in action as they seemingly mounted an attack on University of Missouri television producer Kent Faddis, filming them from aboard a U.S. Geological Survey research boat.

This hungry invasive species — the Asian carp — is believed to have breached a shock-producing electric barrier designed to prevent the giant invader from upsetting the ecosystem in the Great Lakes and jeopardizing a $7 billion sport fishery, officials said.”

Insurance Broker By Day, Locavore By Night

I grew up surrounded by mentors who shared their knowledge of hunting, fishing, and all things wild. I can only imagine how intimidating it would be to have a desire to hunt and have no mentor to turn to. Kudos to hunters like Jackson Landers who have organized the effort to share what we love with others.

Nick Chaset helped found a hunting society for urban neophytes. He harvested the deer above in Virginia.

“THE call to forge deeper connections with the food we eat has pulled thousands to the nation’s farmers’ markets, sprouted a million backyard seedlings and jump-started an interest in scratch baking, canning and other county-fair pursuits.

Now add hunting to the list. Novice urban hunters are forming classes and clubs to learn skills that a few generations ago were often passed down from parent to child.

Jackson Landers, an insurance broker by day, teaches a course here called Deer Hunting for Locavores. Mr. Landers, 31, started the classes earlier this year for largely urban adults who, like him, did not grow up stalking prey but have gravitated to harvesting and cooking their own game.

He tailored his course to food-obsessed city people with lessons on deer biology, habitat and anatomy, and rounded out his students’ education with field trips to a firing range to practice shooting and a session on butchery and cooking.”.

Woman finds her gun is slightly more effective than calling 911

Be careful what you say when calling 911. After defending yourself in your home you may be defending yourself in court.

Make it clear you are defending your life and there is no alternative but to use deadly force.

If possible, contact your attorney before making an official statement to the police.
