A monument for the pastor behind ‘A River Runs Through It’

The good people of the state of Montana have honored a historical Montanan.

rrti1

“On Sunday, a monument honoring the central character in the story, minister and fly fisherman John Maclean, was dedicated at the First Presbyterian Church on Fifth St. in Missoula, Montana. It was in this Western city that Maclean presented his first sermon as pastor of the congregation one hundred years ago this year, in February 1909. He planned and oversaw the building of the current house of worship, which was completed in 1915.

Rev. Maclean, his wife Clara, and son Paul—around whose 1938 murder the book’s plot is constructed—are all buried in the church cemetery.”

“He told us about Christ’s disciples being fishermen, and we were left to assume…that all great fishermen on the Sea of Galilee were fly fisherman and that John, the favorite, was a dry-fly fisherman.”

American Music

You might read the title of this blog entry and ask:

‘Hey Rusty, we know you are manly and devilishly handsome, but what gives with the mamby-pamby title?’

Well the answer is some people have corporate web-filters that block any content that includes references to weapons. Yes…REALLY.

wussie

This is the world we live-in. A world where ‘weapons’ are filtered from the internet and walruses like Michael Moore make movies. Well the revolution is here! My cunning title will seduce that commie web-filter into a state of relaxation then BAM! I am going to kick that web filter right in the giblets. Take that web-filter!

Now for some music:

Showtime Series “Lock And Load”

The Showtime Series “Lock And Load” (not to be confused with the History Channel’s “Lock And Load” with R. Lee Ermey) is surprising given that it is on a network not exactly known for defending gun rights and is apparently the first ‘reality show’ which promises to be somewhat pro-gun ownership.

Will the Showtime series “Lock And Load” turn into yet another mass media platform to attack the second amendment? We will see.

Wait and see

Launching anvils in the air with explosives

Posted in Culture on October 21st, 2009 by Rusty Shackleford – Be the first to comment

Yes, as in the heavy metal device used for blacksmithing. Hoisted with explosives…into the air…for our amusement.

Don’t try explaining to your wife why you find this fascinating, she will just roll her eyes and want to ‘talk’ about your ‘relationship’ or some such waste of time.

Let’s get back on-topic…explosions that launch anvils!

Freedom Group, rising star in the firearms industry

Freedom Group Inc. based in Madison, N.C is perhaps the biggest guns and ammunition manufacturer you never heard of. They are the folks that purchased Bushmaster Firearms in 2006 then they purchased Remington Arms Co. in 2007 and through a private equity firm, Cerebrus Capital they purchased Marlin Firearms, Cobb Manufacturing, Dakota Arms LLC and DPMS Panther Arms.

Firearms and ammunition sales have been brisk given recent events in South Asia, Mesopotamia and North America. Real estate and retail sales may be down but sales of guns and ammunition are expected to continue to grow. This year, Freedom Group is expected to begin their initial public offering.

“Cerberus’s thesis was to consolidate a fragmented industry it saw as undermanaged. Earlier this year it named Ted Torbeck, a 20-year veteran of General Electric Co., as Freedom’s chief executive. Befitting the low profile maintained by Cerberus and its founder, Stephen Feinberg, the company lacks a Web site. While each of its brands has a Web site, none mentions Freedom Group. Freedom is expected to enhance its corporate identity in the coming months, according to people familiar with the company.

Helping oversee the investment for Cerberus is George Kollitides, who like his boss Mr. Feinberg is an avid shooter and hunter. Mr. Kollitides, who has run unsuccessfully for a National Rifle Association board seat, is a member of the upscale hunting club Mashomack Preserve Club in Pine Plains, N.Y. Mr. Feinberg, an ardent deer hunter, favors a Remington Model 700 and owns the rifle in a variety of calibers.”

Ruger .17 HMR helps solve ground squirrel problem

This is one way to deal with a rodent infestation.

“235 +/- squirrels less on the farm… this was taken over a two day period where the problem was not solved completely, but certainly addressed… The dead land in the film use to be rows of trees, and the piles of limb and branches in the video are whats left of the trees. The green is the neighboring alfalfa which they are severely threatening…

Rifle in this video is a Ruger More.. 77/17 with a Tasco World Class Scope..(6x-24x-44mm) The ammo used is Hornady .17HMR ballistic tip.”
